One Random Day...

Friday, July 10, 2009

Since the majority of my friends and family had no idea about TJED or the approach to schooling we are taking I thought it would be fun to document a day of child lead activities. This has become one of my favorite memories.

It was a day in January:

After our opening I thought it would be fun to see what the kids would do with pattern blocks. Maybe make some shapes, build some towers — pattern blocks are pretty straight forward right?

The container is more fun then the blocks. It makes a nice drum.

Who's kid is this?!

Never too far behind ...

Ah, we take a break from taste testing to physics and the laws of flight.

Another break to make puppets.

The puppets ... um ... (think human gastrointestinal) ... um... the blocks "move through" the puppets in to their container. Goodness knows you just can't pick something up — picking up can be the best part of the game!

Can't have puppets without a puppet show.

Time to trade out puppets for dolls.

And we finish up with hours of playing house — all activities, games, lessons, books, etc in our home end with playing house.

Why is this insane day my favorite, because it is exemplifies how we work. I usually think about different lessons and ways the day will go and then the kids come in and teach me what learning is all about.

It makes my heart smile!

What a fun idea--to document a day with pictures. It was fun to see how your documented day went!

What a wonderful day! The art of playing is well known to children. Somewhere along the path of growing up, we tend to forget about it and how important it is.
